I Had the Opportunity…

Hello everyone it's been a long time. I've been so swamped with things. It's good to be sharing with you once again. I just had the opportunity to view some cool movies that I want to briefly elaborate upon.

Martian Child
I really enjoyed this picture because it dealt with an adopted single parent who actually was a widow and in need of a companion. However, it goes much deeper than that. The relationship that the single adopted parent has with the child is uncanny.

The child believes that he is from mars and is a really strange kid with baggage. This makes for a really good heartfelt flick. Sorry I didn’t see it any sooner.

Reservation Road
Tells the story of a family whose life is changed in a moment when their son is killed by a hit and run driver. This movie grabs you from the start with a good script and great performances from its actors. It contrasts two types of families one broken by tragedy the other broken by divorce. Both families will never be the same after the accident and you won’t be the same after you watching it.

Rails and Ties
Is a tragic but good picture in which a mother who suffers from depression from facing cancer and decides she is going to take her life along with her son, who escapes with his life. this movie is really deep. I can’t go into anything else without spoiling it.

So check it out at your convenience. I have a few surprises for you tomorrow.

I Like It, I Like It

I Like It, I Like it

Hello cinemaniacs,

It has been a few days since the last post. I can tell you now that I’ve been busy. There have been a couple of movies that I want to share with you from different genres. So lets get started.

How many of you out there like watching Anime

I don’t get a chance to watch a lot of boxed anime sets but I had the opportunity to see two very outstanding ones.

The first is Gunslinger Girl.
This cartoon is off the hook. I don’t want to spoil it for those who have never had the chance to check it out.

Whoever said that they are not intimidated by smaller people are no threat to a bigger more imposing figure somebody has told them wrong. Why just ask Oscar De La Hoya about his smaller opponent Manny Pacquiao and he will tell you it’s not the size of the dog but the fight in the dog.

Gunslinger Girls are small but they kick a@# just the same and handle their business. In fact, you have to see this for yourself. This is a great anime piece. I like it. I like it.

The second boxed anime set happens to be:

Afro Samurai Directors Cut
Samuel L. Jackson provides the voice for this relentless Samurai on a mission. Action packed fun. Check it out for yourself. I like it. I like it.

Grosse Point Blank
John Cusack plays a government hired cleaner who comes back to his old stomping ground to put a new mark on ice. This is a 1997 old picture that I always wanted to see but never caught from the beginning till recently. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen it. To put it short, I like it. I like it.

27 Dresses
Is a cool romantic flick that I never rally wanted to see because I thought it was going to be corny because of the premise? However, it turned out to be a good look. I like it I like it. You can check this one out with your lady.

Things to Come

Twilight 2 is about to be in the works.

Hancock 2 is happening.

Notorious B.I.G. opens in January

Night at the Museum 2

Madagassgar3

Fast and Furious4 awakens the return of Vin Diesel and Paul Walker as they take it back to the streets.

Tyrannosaurus Rex horror flick by Rob Zombie which he says has nothing to do with dinosaurs.

Final Destination 4 death is on the prowl again looking to do a u-turn to hit those who slipped away from its grip.

I like how it all will unfold in the movie department in the months and year to come. I will keep you posted on some other new things in the works. Be well my cinemaniacs.

Go Cop That

I can’t believe that the year is about over. We are in December and it hasn’t really snowed yet here in New York City. I would love to see some kind of snowfall before the year is out. It really hasn’t been cold like that yet.

We are in the holiday season.

Whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa I decided I to share a couple of really good box sets that you can purchase for yourself or that special person on your list that you want to bare gifts.

I decided to do something a little different this post. These are some of the best boxed shows that you can cop.

The Lost Room is a Sci-fi gem that I stumbled upon and fell in love with immediately. Great plot twists, good acting and a story line that sticks like super glue gel. It was a mini-series that played on the sci-fi network.

The Wire is one of HBO’s grittiest T.V. shows. It was not only true to the street, but it was a hit with people who were in law enforcement because it really keeps the script close to reality. Take a ride through the concrete jungle of Baltimore, Maryland.
To a place where drug dealers play for keeps some cops are on the take and some will do whatever they have to do to bring down the bad guys.

This is a must see for anyone who hasn’t had the opportunity to see it.

The Shield is one of the most intoxicating shows that I have ever seen. It is the King Kong of cop dramas. Hands down it stands alone when it comes to other cop shows. It delves into issues that other shows don’t even scratch the surface upon. What happens when you have a crooked cop with a crooked tactical narcotics team on some of the

This show will go down in history as one of the most critically acclaimed shows to grace the television screen.

Be on the look out tomorrow I have some goodies to tell you about. See you then.

Zombie Diaries

It is good to be back writing. I was away for a few days with my family in Virginia celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday with them. The trip was really cool. I had a blast and wish I could have stayed longer than I did.

I had the chance to spend quality time with my niece who happens to be a whole lot of fun. Not only is this little girl smart with a sense of humor and being very persuasive she has a love for horror movies.

I have never seen a four year old boy or girl who is not afraid of horror movies, but is entertained by them. She asked me to pop in a horror movie uncle as we walked away from the dinner table.

I put on a comedy that made her laugh and she cheered me on more and more after it was finished to put in a horror movie.

I couldn’t believe it. So I grabbed Zombie popped it in. My eight year old nephew was scared of it while my niece chanted out this movie ain’t scary uncle.

I have to agree with my niece. Zombie Diaries was not what I expected even with it’s unique twist that was different from any zombie movie that I’ve ever seen.

Zombie Diaries is two thumbs down.

Maybe I should start sending her movies to critique for me since she is pretty much on point with movies for a four year old. Is this what the horror genre has become? We need some new writers who can scare the devil out of us while keeping us in awe.

4 The Money

Have you seen the movie Mad Money?

I finally sat around to watch it. For those who haven't seen it.

Mad Money stars Diane Keaton, Katie Holmes and Queen Latifah. I can recall when the movie first hit the theatres. The critics soaring in action faster than a Lockheed F-117 Stealth Nighthawk fighter plane and shot it down.

There reviews basically never even gave the film a fighting chance.

I have to say that the script is crafty, the acting is great and the story builds up to a nice climax with plot twists that you don’t expect.

I’m impressed by Katie Holmes playing a different type of character. She was convincing. Diane Keaton did her thing in this picture. I need to find out who wrote the script for this and check to see if they have any other well crafted movies.

After watching the movie I have to say that it was a very good movie. Mad Money is not your average heist flick. It took a very familiar plot theme that we are familiar with and put women where we usually see men.

Next they took three women for three different walks of life each dealing with their own struggles in life and situations. Mad money made you care about the characters while luring you in.

I don’t want to tell you too much or spoil the movie for you but if you haven’t seen it check it out at your convenience.

Look Out For…

Do you ever get excited when you know that a movie that really peaks your interest is coming out?

Well I get very excited.

There are a bunch of movies that I can’t wait to come out. I will go over several of them.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen
The first one was awesome. If it is even half as good as the original it is definitely worth going to see.

Terminator 4: Salvation
I’m interested in seeing what they will do with the latest installment.

Watchmen
Watchmen is DC comics latest movie installment. The special effects are so crazy. I was fortunate to get a view of the trailer. If the script and acting is great as the special effects this may be one of DC’s best movies to date.

Jurassic Park 4
The Dinosaurs are about to go on another rampage.

28 Months Later
I really didn’t like the original 28 Days. 28 Weeks was awesome though. They are at it again with a new installment which I want to see because the second installment made me a fan of the franchise.

The Brazilian Job
Is the sequel to the Italian Job(which I happen to love). This project keeps getting pushed back. I hope that it does get the green light.

Beverly Hills Cop IV
This promises to be a banger. I can’t wait to see Eddie reprise his role as Axel Foley. Murphy does good in cop flicks.

Captain America
Captain America is one of my favorite Marvel Comics super heroes. This will set things up for the Avengers movies that will be coming out later on sometime.

Heroic Characters

When people talk movies they often talk about good or bad characters.
Let me explain for clarity purposes.

Good characters are characters that are believable and bad are flat characters that are unreal. Then there are the villains and heroes.

Good guys and villains fall into one of these headings person, monsters system/government or machines. Now with all of those the villains out there trying to destroy, kill and hinder our characters from accomplishing the goal.

We needed a Dr. Loomis to Deal with a psychotic serial killer by the name of Michael Meyers.

I just want to share some of my favorite heroic characters from film and what it takes to be a hero.

John Travolta as Sean Archer
First a heroic character has to be ready to sacrifice some things in order to be a hero. Sean Archer was willing to sacrifice his face, family and life to stop a crazy terrorist by the name of Castor Troy from killing thousands of people. Who can forget Face/Off?

Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker
Second a heroic character has to have courage & dedication to due battle with any type of villain. Even if being a hero means you have to go up against a dark galactic empire on a course for world domination.

Luke was definitely up to the challenge working his way up the ranks from a young fighter pilot to become a Jedi Knight. Was able to help his dad Darth Vader forsake the dark side to become a hero once again to destroy the evil emperor.

Bruce Willis as John McClane
Thirdly a heroic character has to have that internal hero clock working within them so when something jumps off they can go into action. John McClane’s clock was working on overdrive. He seemed to be always at the right place when the wrong things were happing and handled his business, especially in the fourth installment.

Vin Diesel as Riddick
Finally all heroes aren’t squeaky clean. Some heroes have a history that may not resemble the resume of our usual suspects for heroes. Remember how Hans Solo was in Star Wars?

In case of an emergency, break the normal routine by selecting a bad boy to get the job done. Riddick was a gritty hard character. When people needed a hero he stepped up to the plate. What better character to choose in tough times to fight against the powers that be than a fearless bad boy who’s ready to die.

We have This Hope

I’m sitting here sitting down at my desk still in a state of happiness and awe. I can only say two words Barack Obama.

Barack on with your bad self. You shook up the world!!

Congratulations to our new President Senator Barack Obama.

It is also great to see Dr. Martin Luther King’s Dream being manifested in history right now. We have this hope that unity will draw us closer together.

A hope that fellow Americans near and far are uniting in purpose and action to make this country greater than it has ever been before.

This is huge.

Let us pray that God continues to lead, direct and orders his steps in this presidential term. We have this hope that Obama will help lead us into the promised land.

I want to share with you inspirational movies of hope that are inspiring as this precious moment in history.

I Sing Because...

Happy Election Day! Voter turnout is one of the largest that they have seen in forty years. Make sure you go rock the vote if you haven’t already done so. I’m so ecstatic because of this historical moment. I sing because I’m happy right now because we are about to bare witness to a phenomenal event.

I can’t wait to get out of here to go run vote for Obama if it is the last thing I do today. Last night I couldn’t even sleep I was too excited abut today.

Today’s post I want to briefly talk about two movies that I watched last night and enjoyed thoroughly.

The first is Recount which deals with the election of Al Gore and George Bush. I enjoyed it.

The second is Bobby which deals with several stories surrounding the Bobby Kennedy's story.

Both movies deal with politics hint, hint. I sing because I’m happy amd it is a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Tomorrow will mark a new day of change and the dawning of a new era.

Close Your Eyes

Thursday night I watched “the Last House in the Woods” and I must say that it is a certified Frisbee that I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

I’m sorry for even putting the link to this movie on my Thursday, October 30, 2008 post. I was so upset that I wasted my time watching that foolishness.

It has since been removed.

The title of it should have been “How Not to Make a Horror Flick” and the subtitle should have been “the Worst.”

Enough of that I am giving that crap way too much publicity.

There is nothing like a good psychological thriller. There is something about them that just keeps you looking for clues. I enjoy the way the mind works especially when a movie delves into the whole psychological aspect of character and screenwriting.

After watching several movies over the weekend I decided that I would write a post about “Close Your Eyes.” This movie is really good. The premise a hypnotherapist with a troubled past is called in to help police capture an elusive serial killer.

From the beginning the script hypnotizes you taking you to places unknown.

Just when you think you have it all figured out it the movie throws you for a whole other loop. Close Your Eyes has the right combination of A good script, solid characters, and plot twists that makes this movie a very good look.

In fact, this is the stuff great movies are created from. So if you have never seen this movie, check it out.

I bet you wont want to close your eyes because you will be hypnotized with your eyes open.

Movies that Changed the Horror Game

What I want you to do is drift back in time to your comfortable chair or sofa just before watching the movie that scared or shocked you.

Do you remember what movie it was? There are several that shocked me. In fact, there are too many to name.

What I want to do is touch upon some movies that changed the horror game. These shook up the world.

The Exorcist and Exorcist III
William Peter Blatty scared the hell out of us by using two very familiar characters that are prevalent to our lives, an innocent child and the diabolical devil.

Night of the Living Dead
George Romero’s movie basically spawned a whole new generation of zombie flicks. He has inspired many of the modern day zombie flicks.

Fright Night
Fright Night changed the persona of vampires. Never has a vampire been such a snappy dresser, cool and more inviting to people.

Psycho
Alfred Hitchcock scared the hell out of me as a child when I watched this movie. I was scared to go take a shower is there no place safe in your house where you can get away from a psycho.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Both versions are good, but I prefer the new version because it not only changed the game but it made it was more coherent and made you fear Leather Face as opposed to laughing at him like I did when I saw the original.

The Thirteen Ghosts
The remake of this movie was excellent. It is a real treat to have in your collection because they give a brief history of each ghost. The screenwriter and director did a great put that together.

Wrong Turn
This movie was groundbreaking because it finally showed us that somebody could come up with a family that put Leather Face and his family to shame. This shocking flick unfolded before us a twisted and demented serial killing family who mastered the art of hunting.

The Devil’s Rejects
Rob Zombie gave us his version of a Charles Manson type family on a killing spree.

Amityville Horror
The Amityville Horror is based on a true story and was a creepy movie. I especially loved the remake because it went into more detail and it kept you on the edge of your seat.

Poltergeist I, Poltergeist II
This movie was groundbreaking because it dealt with so many different things on the level of the paranormal, ghosts, and the devil going hard after a little girl and her family.

Check these movies out on DVD now “Boy Eats Girl” and “Joy Ride 2.”

Just When You Thought…

Just when you thought that you have seen it all someone works hard enough to rework an old movie premise and does something completely different with it. Allow me the next few minutes to explain to you what I’m talking about.

I really enjoy watching golden screen gems just to watch the masters work their black and white magic and cinematographic genius upon their viewers.

Alfred Hitchcock happens to be one of my favorites because of what he does with the camera without special effects and all that jazzamatazz we have now.

The other night, while I was bored thinking about going to work the next day I decided to pop in one of the 50 plus DVDs I haven’t had the chance to view yet because my schedule is hectic as a rock star on steroids. No offense.

I decided to watch a movie called KAW. It takes place in a small town that is unexpectedly attacked by Ravens who seem to work together attacking town residents and anything else standing in their way.

Can somebody say doesn’t this sound like Hitchcock’s classic “the Birds?” What I can tell you that it sounds like it but it isn’t.

Just when you thought you heard it all a screenwriter who puts paprika in his script to change the ingredients to a familiar recipe and woos you at the same time.

Kaw is the new school version of the Birds with a different type of twist.

These ravens are on a mission and will not stop at anything to get to some flesh. They say the greatest form of flattery is to copy somebody else’s style.

Well this Hitchcock fan not only did their homework but put together a really good version of their own.

Kaw is definitely something to watch if you haven’t had the opportunity to check it out you might want to do so.

Since this is Halloween week I will be sharing some more horror flicks with you to die for.

Stay tuned cinemaniacs.

I Don't Usually Do This, But ...

Hello cinemaniacs, happy Monday to you. I’m in a sentimental mood right now. I want to send my condolences to Jennifer Hudson and family.

We should all pray God gives the family all the strength and support that they need in their time of tragedy and bereavement.

Today’s post will be different than any that I have written before. I will switch lanes from the normal routine. Instead of talking about what movies I have seen most recently. I want to set the stage for the rest of the week with this post.

Movies are distant cousin to life itself. After all it is through life experiences that the ideas of movies are crafted. We watch movies to escape for a couple of hours from our realities whatever they may be.

I usually don’t do this but I feel it is necessary to share this piece of information with you.

You are the director of your life. It is your job to create the best life for yourself. Your mind is the camera, your thoughts, actions, situations are a part of the script and you are the star of the show.

Some people live a life of mystery, some of drama, others of comedy, while others live a life of horror. You are the director you are in control. God is the executive producer of your life, but you are the director.

Don’t you get tired of people saying if it is God’s will I will have this or go here or there? I know I do. It is God’s will for you to have the best. So stop sitting around waiting for God to grant you something you can go out there and get by yourself and find something else to pray about.

This isn’t Walt Disney Land and god isn’t your fairy god father. He is your Heavenly Father who has given you the power to create miraculous things in your life.

Today do everything in your power to make your life (movie) the best it can be and stop complaining about what is not going right. You’re in control so flip the script and change it to the type of movie you want to star in.

I usually don’t do this, but I’m doing it today. Make your life (movie) a blockbuster today. You have the power to do that now. So get started

15 Marvelous Heist Movies

I happen to have a thing for heist movies. It may have to do with the little boy whole wild cowboy fantasies I used to have of being chased by the law. That was fun.I don't know if it was the adrenaline rush that flooded my soul while running around chasing other kids with my two silver colt cap guns popping off at them. Then saying man you're dead I shot you.

There was something different about playing the cowboy instead of the law. there was a sense of power that came with the guns and being the villain that still moves me today. So with all of that said here’s a list of some of my favorite heist movies.

Dog Day Afternoon
Dog Day Afternoon is a timeless classic. Al Pacino does an outstanding job in the movie. If you have never seen it go rent it, buy it whatever you do just see it.Heat
Al Pacino & his police family vs. Robert DeNiro and his crime family. The hidden premise of the movie has strong ties to the power family and what are you willing to sacrifice for your family.

Steal
What happens when a bunch of high octane thrill seekers step up their robbery skills to take down scores. Action packed.

Inside Man
This is a gem of a movie. You know what happens on a Spike Lee joint. A star studded cast Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, jodie Foster and a super skilled script bring this mastrepiece to life.

Catch Me if You Can
Leonardo Di Caprio does an outstanding job as a young conman doing what he does best. Based on a true story this is one you should not miss.Heist
This movie stars one of my favorite actors of all times Gene Hackman. The movie is awesome.

The Italian Job
This is a short fuse stick of dynamite that explodes into the atmosphere and blows you away.

The Score
Robert DeNiro and Ed Norton light the screen up. Old school vs. New school which school rule? Check it out to see them do what they do.

Reservoir Dogs
Quentin Tarentino puts together a great plotted story and what can go wrong in a robbery.

Oceans Eleven
This is a remake of the rat pack with an all star cast. It's a good look that did really good numbers. Why else do you think they came out with a sequel and Ocean’s Thirteen.

Money Train
Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson wanting to do a heist of a moey train.Bandits
Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thorton are bank robbers who end up caught in a love triangle. This movie is great.

Bonnie and Clyde
Nobody does it better than the original gangsters in love and taking scores. This is one of my absolute favorites becasue they are ride or die for each other and for the doe.

Set it Off
There are not enough words for me to elaborate upon this movie. What I can say is that Vivica Fox, Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah changed the game in their bank heist flick. I love this movie because it defies the norm of the genre and does a good job with it. I guess anything a man can do on screen good a woman can do with more passion and persuasion.

Betcha Didn't Know!

I have seen thousands of movies some of them more than once. The funny thing is sometimes we watch movies and miss certain things within them. I just want to share some little known facts concerning movies you probably seen before but never noticed or knew these things about them.

Ben-Hur
During the chariot scene a small red car can be seen in the distance and Charleston Heston is wearing a watch. Betcha Didn’t Know!

Bruce Lee
I have always been an avid fan of Bruce Lee. I recall Sundays going to the Grenada movie theatre in Brooklyn, NY to catch double feature and seeing Fist of Fury and the Chinese Connection. I was so amazed by the way he moved and fought.

Did you know he was so fast that they had to slow the film down so we could see his moves?

If they never slowed-it-down we would have never been able to peep his flow. I guess the hands really are quicker than the eye. Betcha Didn’t Know!

Friday the 13th
Who hasn’t watched a Friday the thirteenth flick before? I was open after seeing the first one because they always pushed the envelope with Jason. He always had the best kills. Nobody does it better in the slasher flicks.

Who can forget that Kill-kill-kill-kill–Cha-cha-cha-cha sound while Jason lurks in the darkness about to kill his next victim?

Hey did you know that the sound bite for the movie is actually made from simply saying kill her with a sound machine that made it echo and sound cooler(takes it to a whole other level). Than just someone saying Kill her.

February 2009 they will be dropping the remake to Friday 13 to revitalize the Slasher genre. I can’t wait. I will be there to see the heads roll for sure. Long live Jason Voorhees. This time around Jason will be running behind his victims. I can’t wait for it to drop its going to be a real treat. Betcha Didn’t Know!

Halloween
Michael Myers terrorized the suburbs on a wild killing spree. I think he is the number 2 serial-killer of the slasher flicks next to Jason Voorhees of Friday the 13. Rob Zombie did a good job with his remake of John Carpenters masterpiece.

Did you know that the mask that he wears is a mask of the infamous William Shatner of Star Trek and Boston Legal. Who would have thought that a mask of Shatner would make such a scary accessory of a serial-killer? Betcha Didn't Know! That’s all folks!!!

Simply Denzel

When the talk of the best actors in the game now within this era you have to mention Denzel Washington along with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. That’s right I said it. Denzel is the truth. What makes Denzel great is you always see growth in his work.

You would think that when a person reaches their creative peak that they would just maintain the level of good or greatness that they reach.

However, just when you thought that Denzel has leveled out he blows you away again and again with his performances. I want to share some of my favorite Denzel Flicks not in any specific order.

Malcolm X

Training Day

Remember the Titans

The Hurricane

Man on Fire

The Bone Collector

Inside Man

Glory

Antwone Fisher

John Q.

American Gangster

For those of you who are fans of Denzel. Here is some upcoming news.

We can see him in a new Tony Scott’s flick coming out with him and John Travolta next year. It is the remake of the Taking of Pelham 123. Where in which a group of men hijack a New York Subway train and ask for a hansom ransom. This is going to be an action packed thrill ride that I can't wait to see.

I also hear that there is an Inside Man 2 in the works in which Denzel will be reprising his role as Detective Keith Frazier and Clive Owen will be reprising his role as the crafty Dalton Russell. If it is even half as good as the original know will be a good picture

The Perfect Witness

Have you ever walked in on someone doing something that they were not supposed to do?

I know I have on several occasions.

Now think about how many times you caught someone or were caught in the act doing something you weren’t supposed to do.

Some of us may run out of fingers to count upon while doing this.

That is exactly what a movie I'm about to briefly discuss with you is about in a nutshell.

Now answer this question for me.

When was the last time that you saw a killer flick that really made you think?

I had the opportunity to check out a movie entitled “The Perfect Witness (Spain title is The Ungodly).”

There are some movies that you want to see from watching a trailer, some that you stumble upon, some you see because of someone else and there are some that grabs you by your face beckoning you to watch it.

The Perfect Witness is the later.

This movie stars Wes Bentley who plays a character by the name of Mickey Gravatski. Mark Borkowski plays a serial killer by the name of James Lemac. Both give outstanding performances.

What the Perfect Witness does is bring fresh life to the killer genre.

I don’t want to spoil it for you cinemaniacs, so I will only share this with you. See this skillfully written/directed piece because it has a very profound message to it.

This is a cinemaniac gem

Hot Clive In the City

Hello Cinemaniacs, It’s been a long time.

I was on vacation enjoying a brief hiatus from writing. My radio speakers are crying out “Follow Me” as the bass thumps, my head bops my fingers tap dancing upon the keyboard to bring you another installment of real cinematic expression.

I am hype right now because of all the movies I seen while on vacation. I absolutely enjoy watching horror flicks. I’m not talking about a lot of the trash that is getting pushed out as a horror flick and it is just plain awful.

I don’t know about you but I’m sick of all these whack ghost movies that people are calling scary. I think they are just plain boring.

There are certain masters of horror who really know how to put together a good flick.

Well one of my favorites is Clive Barker. Clive Barker is the man. There is only one horror writer that gave me terrifying nightmares from reading one of his books.

It just so happens that Clive has a new movie called Midnight Meat Train. Meat Train has a killer as memorable as Pinhead from Hell Raiser. This serial killer works the nightshift riding upon the subway train slaughtering its passengers.

I love this movie.

Midnight Meat Train is a horror fans dream. It brings horror back where it belongs. Meat Train is a symphony of psychotic behavior, filled with brutal kills, mystery, blood, gore and a mind-blowing twist at the end.

Just when you thought it was safe to say horror is losing its edge Clive Barker goes hard and brings us Midnight Meat Train. Go check this out!

Hated It!

Now is the time when I like to just express a few movies I watched and hated. I don’t want to offend anyone but here is my list of movies that I hated. It’s not in any particular order.

No Country for Old Men
Not even one of the greatest villains in the past 25 years can save this twisted schizophrenic flick. Now I know the movies are supposed to be make believe but I can't believe the Cohen brothers got awards for this BS.

X-Files I Want to Believe
This movie did the series a great disservice because it was total trash. Not even a half as good as the television series-I sincerely mean that.

Joshua
This movie attempted to be the new school version of the Omen but it was atrocious.

Super Bad
This movie was hyped up to astronomical heights. When I watched it there were funny parts but hilarious it was not. In fact, I couldn't relate to those losers in high school I was the man with a tailor load of women and friends.

Zodiac
This movie was a yawner for me despite having good actors in it. It reminds me of the year that Hollywoodland and the Black Dahlia came out and I was utterly disappointed by them both.

Fracture
This movie was as predictable as a hooker getting picked up by a john in the next two minutes. Anthony Hopkins is always brilliant in what he does. However, a predictable script no matter who you cast in the movie is a predictable script.

Tomorrow, I may continue to sound off on this very same note.

Have You Ever Been...?

Have you ever been robbed, or conned before?

I have been conned a few times in my life.

For those of you who answered no I haven't I askyou to look closer.

You could have been conned by a family member or close friend who tricked you into giving them something or doing something that you would not normally give or do for them.

Children and women are very good at manipulation and the conn game.

Each time I learned something different about the art of a thief and the persuasion of the con game. They are smooth criminals.

I have been conned, hoodwinked and bamboozled before. I can even take it further. How many times have we been conned by movie trailers that attracted us to view a movie where the trailer was better than the entire movie?

I’m sharing movies where in which the best thieves and con persons work their black magic upon their marks.

The Sting

The Grifters

The Talented Mr. Ripley

Catch Me If You Can

Confidence

Criminal

Heist

Heat

Inside Man

Dog Day Afternoon

Documentaries That Rockumentary

I never appreciated documentaries growing up as a child. However over the years I'm developing a very fond love for them. I want to share with my cinemaniacs some documentaries that rock. These movies are not in any particular order.

Farenheit 911
This is one of the most shocking documentaries that I’ve seen in reference to the whole September 11 incident. Michael Moore did an outstanding job on this movie

When the Levees Broke
Spike Lee did a phenomenal job on this documentary about Hurricane Katrina. Everyone should see this movie.

The War on Drugs
This documentary covers the war on drugs from the time that President Nixon gave the charge till the late nineties early 2000’s. This movie is really deep with some very disturbing statistics and confessions from top DEA agents on the issue.

Cocaine Cowboys
Is a documentary covers big time drug trafficking, drug cartels in Miami and the bloody feuds it caused. I recommend watching this movie first before watching the war on drugs. They go hand and hand but you need to see both viewpoints.

Fog City Mavericks
This movie is great because it showcases some of the greatest directors of our time along with their craftsmanship. Any real cinemaniac or writer really needs to view this documentary it is very enlightening.

Standing in the Shadows of Motown
This movie covers the work of the uncanny funk brothers who played on many of the biggest Motown hits that your parents grew up on and we are familiar with. This documentary definitely something to see because it brings to life those familiar hits along with live performances with modern R&B artists putting their spin on the tune.

When We Were Kings
This documentary covers the famous boxing match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in Zaire, Africa it is a great film.

Eagle Eye

The rain gently falls as I walk through it on to the AMC theatre to see the latest thrill ride where Shia Lebouf stars. I mean he is really coming into his own. Last summer he kept us cheering in Transformers. In 2008 he keeps us on the edge of our seats in Eagle eye.

Shia plays Jerry Shaw a proud college dropout trying to make it from day to day without the help of his parents. Jerry is able to getover on people with his bag of manipulation tactics and cunning words. He is barely living from hand to mouth and just when things can't get any worst he receives news that twin brother has died.

The trip back home to pay his last respects to his brother allows him to revisit his relationship with his dad and the joy and pain of twinship. When he leaves to go back home to his matchbox room in Chicago he finds a check in his pocket was given unbeknowst to him by his dad.

Jerry depositis the check into his account then it all starts.

This movie shoots you in the arm with adrenlaine and steroids keeping you on the edge of your seat. Eagle eye is everything I like in a movie. A rapid fire roller coaster thrill ride. The best way to describe this movie is it is the Live Free and Die Hard of 2008 with a different twist.

Shia Rocks!

Michelle Monaghan, Michael Chicklis, Anthony Mackie and Rosario Dawson all give very strong performances. This movie is a must see for the thriller action ride or die reel cinemaniacs. It is worth every penny with no disappointments.

Go check this out you owe it to yourself!

On Top of His Game

I have to say that one of my favorite actors in the world is Robert DeNiro. He is one of the greatest actors of his time.

I’m saying this because he plays roles in various genres and has done an outstanding job in every genre he has dived into.

You cannot pigeon hole him in one particular niche he does various things very well.

He is brilliant.

I recently watched him in a movie in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

Can you imagine DeNiro playing the creature? Well DeNiro played the creature very well I might add.

I place DeNiro on my list of greatest actors of all time. I’m going to see Righteous Kill tonight. So be on the look out for my critique of the movie.

Let me share flicks that I think he did an outstanding job in.

Balxploitation Nation

I’m sitting here in my office listening to 98.7 Kiss fm as they play music from movie soundtracks. These songs are infusing me with inspiration to pen these words today. In the early 1970’s a wave of films were made that targeted black audiences. They starred black actors and usually took place in urban areas.

In the year of 1971 Hollywood financed the movie Shaft which starred Richard Roundtree a tough as nails private investigator. Shaft probably is the grandfather of the genre.

Blaxploitation movies received a lot of flack from various civil rights organizations which called for an end to the genre and by the late 1970’s this genre was terminated.

Politics aside these films were pretty good.

They served a very powerful purpose by speaking to the issues affecting and effecting the black community. I want to salute those films because they opened up my eyes as well as my mind to a lot of things.

Now here is a list of my favorites in no particular order.

Cooley High

Buck and the Preacher

Claudine

Uptown Saturday Night

A Piece of the Action

Let’s Do it Again

Car Wash

Willie Dynamite

Black Caesar

Hell up In Harlem

Across 110th Street

Cotton Comes to Harlem

Sparkle

JD Walker

Super Fly

The Mack

Mahogany

They Call Me Mr. Tibbs

Blackula

Foxy Brown

Three the Hard Way

Cornbread Earl and Me

The film genre may be non existent today, we still live in a blaxploitation nation wheter we like it or not.

What's Love Got to Do With It?

What’s Love Got To Do With It? Everything!

One of the most powerful forces on the planet is love. Love is the undisputed heavyweight champion of persuasive power. Are you in love now? Have you ever been in love before?

Remember how motivated, infatuated and animated you were about the way it made you feel. What about the things it made you do? They say you do silly things when you are in love.

Lord knows I have been there doing some wild and crazy things for love. Things I can laugh about, some I can cry about and others where I question myself in disbelief.

I dedicate this post to my firstborn son Arthur my pride and joy.
It seems like yesterday when I was only seventeen years old and he was born.

Before his birth I was a wild rambunctious teenager in love, but after his birth his existence help transform my life for the better.

Thank God for that. I guess children really are a gift from the Lord. I really understand that statement better than ever before.

I like to sit in Central Park several days out of the week watching the couples walking together and talking together. In my observations I can tell which couples who are sad, angry, coping or settling and the ones who are in love.

The ones who are in love have this glow about them radiating their entire being. The way the couples in love look at each other is different than the way other couples look and interact with each other.

For the past week or so if I could give my life a premise/theme it would have to be LOVE. I say that because everyday my love is being tested for the people and the things closest to me. Love is never out of season.

I thought what better way to start the week than by talking about movies driven by the galactic spaceship LOVE.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Have you ever been there? When your mind just can’t shake that special someone no matter what you do to rid yourself of the memories. I know that I have been there before.

In some cases no matter what you do to remove someone you love from your mind it just does not work. True love never dies and feeling buried alive never die. If you don’t know now you know?

Pretty Woman
I wonder how many hookers watched this flick hoping that they could have a Julia Roberts moment. Only in some cases you can turn a whore into a housewife. Let me stop. This picture was cute.

Claudine
When a hardworking sanitation man links up with a woman with a ready made family of will love conquer his fear to pursuer this relationship deeper? This is a really good picture from the blaxploitation era.

Mahogany
Billy Dee Williams and Diana Ross light up the screen with this gem of a flick. This movie is really good.

Rocky
When most people look at the Rocky franchise they look at it from the boxing standpoint
However, it happens to contain a great love story subplot between a street thug Rocky turned professional boxer and a homely Adrian who is not in touch with her feminine side. If you watch this movie again with fresh eyes it will sweep you off your feet.

Reign Over Me
Adam Sandler’s performance is brilliant. In fact, it is hard to say goodbye to those you love especially when you lose them to tragedy. This movie is a really good one to watch.

An Officer and a Gentleman
This movie plot goes deeper than just a navy boot camp flick. It shows you angles of 2 romantic relationships that two buddies have with two women who are friends. It contrasts three distinct relationships between the navy, romance, and friendships.

What’s Love Got To Do With It? Everything!

Dysfunctional Family

How many of you have dysfunctional people in your family?

I know some of you are not going to answer that truthfully.

What about those who come from a dysfunctional family?

I love my family a great deal; no matter how much I deny coming from a dysfunctional family. It always sneaks upon me taps my shoulder reminding me where I come from.

Today I have been pretty much in a Twilight Zone haze. After receiving a phone call with some news that forever changes my life. I guess alls fair in life, love, movies and everything in between. No it isn’t.

There is just too much stuff going on in my life right now.

A number of things are coming from different angles so I dip, dodge, duck what I can and juggle the rest. I guess what I’m saying is I’m working hard to keep a level head despite this pulsating headache.

I still love my crazy family. The good book says "the truth shall set you free." So I'm free right now.

While we are on the subject of dysfunctional families I want to share some dysfunctional poeple and families I enjoy watching on the silver screen.

Turning Back Time

If you could turn back time to go to any place you wanted where would you go?

Think about it for a moment by taking yourself to that very time and place that you would enjoy.
Did you think about it?

I know exactly what year I will go back to. I know whose company I will be enjoying, watching the tangerine sunset together. Her eyes sparkling with excitement from being in my presence adoring this very moment in time.

What we going to do now is go back.

Back to an era where mortals tiptoe through the portals of time in hopes of recapturing stolen moments they hold near to their hearts. Sit back relax and enjoy these movies that turn back time.

Venemous Villians 2 Die 4 Part II

Here is the second installment of villains to die for. Some of you may be familiar with and some you may not. At any rate, let’s get down to business.

T1000 (T2 Terminator 2) Robert Patrick
Just when you thought that Arnold played a great villain in the original Robert Patrick comes in and changes the game completely.

Darth Vader (Star Wars) David Prowse/James Earl Jones (Voice)
Between David Darth is one of the greatest villains on the silver screen.

Alonzo Harris (Training Day) Denzel Washington
Denzel crossed over to the dark side he was brilliant, scary and cunningly convincing. He puts the Vill in Villian.

Tommy DeVito (Good Fellas) Joe Pesci
Tommy was a trigger happy ride or die wild cowboy. Somebody you would never think of want to cross.

Gabriel (The Prophecy) Christopher Walken
Plays a fallen angel on a mission from Hell. Walken is a master of bringing this villain to life.

Kevin O-Dog (Menace II Society) Larenz Tate
O-Dog plays one of the most feared gangsters in the hood with nothing to lose. He is only a teenager and as ruthless as they come.

Blake (Ricochet) John Lithgow
Blake is a straight menace who devises a master plan to etched in the blood of revenge. Can you say spooky?

Clubber Lang (Rocky III) Mr. T
Clubber Lang is what I call a super villain. He gave Rocky Balboa a thorough Philadelphia ghetto beat down. It was fast brutal and without mercy. But before that he disrespects Rocky by inviting Adrian to come see what a real man looks like. Clubber Shoves Mickey to the floor like an unwanted rag doll tossing him into a heart failure situation.

Stansfield (Leon the Professional) Gary Oldman Nobody wants to come into contact with a crooked cop. Stansfield is one of the worst kinds. He’s a DEA agent who takes gangster to a whole other level.

Ryan Gaerity (Blown Away) Tommy Lee Jones
First and foremost I love Tommy Lee Jones. As a villain he is the epitome of evil he doesn’t care who he takes out and he does it with bombs.

Henry (Henry: The Portrait of a Serial Killer) Michael Rooker
I stumbled on this movie when I used to rent movies in Brooklyn at this little video store at the corner that has since gone out of business. Michael Rooker is very scary killer who just happens to be working on his diabolical masterpiece.

Mad Dog Cole (Mobsters) Nicholas Sadler Anyone with the street name of mad dog has to be out of control. I mean have you ever seen a mad dog? I have and believe me you want to stand clear of its way because they are untamable and usually have to be put to sleep.
Mad Dog Cole makes many of the wildest gangsters look like Sunday school kids. He is

Allison “Allie” Jones (Single White Female) Bridgette Fonda
What happens when you tornado twist fatal attraction between two women who are not gay by the way? One is just looking for a roommate to stay with her and help her pay the bills. While the other woman is psychotic, looking for a twin soul, and will do anything that she needs to do to get what she wants.

Mrs. Mott/Peyton Flanders (The Hand That Rocks the Cradle) Rebecca De Mornay Revenge is a dish best served cold they say. Well if you have never seen how lady villains get down take notes because this chick is working a master plan to take over everything in the house.

Regan MacNeil (The Exorcist) Linda Blair
The scariest female villain I have ever seen on the silver screen. Made me afraid to go in my room, be in the dark and made me feel that even if your parents are home you can still get got. People say all the time that the devil made them do it. Regan will scare the hell out of you, beat the hell out of you, and kill you under his influence.

Annie Wilkes (Misery) Kathy Bates
Annie makes you afraid to think of having a number one fan. In fact, she has to be one of the scariest female villains since Linda Blair in the exorcist. What kind makes her scary is she isn’t possessed by the devil just psychotic and obsessed.

The Dark Knight Review

Hello cinemaniacs,

This past week anxiety flooded my soul as I shipped out a 6,000 piece direct mailing. I know that I missed you for a couple of days. Whew! I’m glad that it is finally over and I'm back.

Back on my grind doing what I enjoy. Write.

I usually check a movie out the first week it comes to theatres. This is not the case with the Dark Knight. The movie was out for a whole month or so before I went to see it.

What did I do all this time before going to see the movie?

I began reading articles from colleagues/mentors upon the Dark Knight. Listening to my Friends and co-workers singing praises about Heath Ledger and the movies greatness began to get to me. The Batman buzz became a terrifying thunder that could not be ignored.

So on a warm Saturday night at an 11:00 pm I met up with my lady and her two boys at the local AMC theatre to view the Dark Knight for myself. I am a Christopher Nolan fan who believes in his skills as a writer/director. It goes without saying that I have enjoyed every movie that Chris has written that I have seen.

In fact, I can recall the day I sat in my bedroom eating a veggie burger, sipping on ice cold lemonade and watching Batman Begins on DVD. I was literally blown away.

Chris stirred up in me a newly found love for Batman. I think that he really captured the essence of Batman such as never before seen on the silver screen.

The Dark Knight was an ok picture that you could upgrade to good because of its star power. The special effects were good and it rocked in IMAX. I think that the storyline was alright but I expected more from all of the hype about the flick. I think the movie is choppy. It seems to be missing smooth transitions.

The publicity for the movie was phenomenal. In the end I was subliminally persuaded to join in with the hundreds of thousands movie attendees to become a part of the Dark Knight experience. I got caught up in the hype. This is the second highest grossing film of all time. Chris Nolan disappointed me with this one. There were a few things he left undone from Batman Begins like whatever happened to the Bat cave and why was he operating from another location?

Now as far as Heath Ledger played a good Joker. Heath’s version was reminiscent of Caesar Romero’s version of the Joker on the Batman television series. Chris Nolan allowed the Joker to be as destructive and diabolical as he is supposed to be.

In my opinion Christian Bale is the best Batman that the cinema franchise has. He is followed by Michael Keaton. This is not to take anything away from anyone who has played batman in the past. I say this because he is the only one who truly captures the true essence of Batman.

In closing, the Batman franchise has now surpassed the Superman franchise on a cinematic scale and it seems that Batman is the new man of steel of the box office. LOL

What’s up with that DC?

P.S. Maybe you need Chris Noland to write and direct the script for the next Superman movie. That is of course if you have any plans of releasing another one.

Venemous Villians 2 Die 4 Part I

A great villian is an attention magnet. When they work their wicked magic on us we either become fans or haters of their campaigns of destruction.

Whatever side we choose to be on their wicked ways compel us to question how they became that way.

Here's an array of low down dirty rotten scoundrels who have solidified themselves as venemous villians. I'm not numbering them at this particular time, but I'm quite sure this subject will come up again.

Norman Bates (Psycho) Anthony Perkins
The first time I watched this picture as a kid I watched it through my fingers. After that I was hooked and I never watched a scary picture through my hands again.

Patrick Bateman (American Psycho) Christian Bale
A Yuppie psycho serial killer who is well versed in music, style, with a huge appetite for bloodshed.

Michael Myers (Halloween)
John Carpenter brought fear to doorsteps of the suburbs while scaring the hell out of us.

Jason Vorhees ( Friday the 13th)
My favorite psycho serial killer because he delivers the best kills in the business.

John Ryder ( The Hitcher) Rutger Hauer
Makes you think twice about being a good samaritan by picking up a hitchhiker. Rutger is brilliant.

Anton Cohigurh (No Country for Old Men) Javier Bardem
A sadistically evil villian nobody wants to come into contact with or across. I think one of the sickest that we have seen on film in a long time.

Max Cody (Cape Fear) Robert DeNiro
Max Cody is a man on a mission out to get even. He is a beast.

Gil Reynard (The Fan) Robert DeNiro
Just when you think DeNiro couldn't get any more psychotic in a role he does it again in a whole new way.

Hannibal Lecter (the Silence of the Lambs) Anthony Hopkins
Anthony Hopkins nailed this on the head. He is simply so convincing in this picture.

Unsung Heroes

Hello my fellow cinemaniacs. It is nice of you to join me for another fine day. I’m sitting here in front of my computer sipping on my Evian listening to Joe’s “What if a woman”.
We are a day closer to Friday and Labor Day weekend. I’m pumped up.

So let’s get this thing started. I’m going to tip my Yankee cap to some people who usually go unnoticed by movie goers. Some go fairly unknown for years.

Today, I salute screenwriters.

The script doctors who create worlds we care about, characters we connect with and good clean enjoyable fun.

So without further or do I now present to you some unsung heroes.

Gina Prince-Bythewood- She is the writer of the critically acclaimed “Love and Basketball” and is married to Reggie Rock Bythewood (Produced and wrote for New York Undercover). Be on the lookout for her new picture “The Secret Life of Bees” that is due out later this year.

Jieho Lee and Bob DeRosa- Co-wrote “The Air I Breathe.” Which is a really good picture that if you haven’t had the opportunity to see it you need to make that happen. Trust me you will not be disappointed.

Scott Frank- Has a string of hit pictures. Here are a few movies that he wrote that you maybe familiar. Here they are the Lookout, the Interpreter, Minority Report, and Get Shorty. He has a comedy coming out entitled “Marley & Me” that is in Post production.

Jeremy Garelick and Jay Lavender- May not be familiar names to you. But I’m quite sure that you are familiar with their work hit comedy “The Break-up” which starred Vince Vaughn and Jenifer Anniston. It is one of the best relationship movies in the past five years.

Christopher McQuarrie-Has skills. He has written one of the most memorable pictures in 15 years of cinematic history. Who can forget “The Usual Suspects?” He has a few up and coming projects coming up.

Thank you for blessing us with stories we enjoy and have grown to love over the years. Keep doing what you do because we appreciate your masterful artistry.

Twisted Tales

I have a knack for stumbling on twisted tales. Whether my fingers are tap dancing across the remote channel surfing or I'm shuffling my feet in Virgin Records or Blockbuster.

After reading the premise of a movie I know if I want to see it or not. So the premise today is twisted tales that spin you around taking you for a nice twirl. So just go with it and enjoy.

No Ordinary Love

Every time I hear the beautiful Sade sing this song I cannot help but think back to the scandalous movie Indecent Proposal. Don’t you?

For those of you who have never seen the movie check it out. But this is not about an indecent proposal. Let’s view the song in detail, then I will very briefly elaborate on these lyrics while allowing them to usher us into our post today.

Sade - No Ordinary Love
This is lyrics from
www.lyrics007.com

I gave you all the love I got I gave you more than I could give I gave you love I gave you all that I have inside And you took my love You took my love Didn't I tell you What I believe Did somebody say that A love like that won't last Didn't I give you All that I've got to give baby I keep crying I keep crying for you There's nothing like you and I baby This is no ordinary love No ordinary love This is no ordinary love No ordinary love When you came my way You brightened every day With your sweet smile

What’s so powerful about the song is it could easily be placed on every films soundtrack that follows. These movies are the kind I hold in the softest place in my heart. They are timeless masterpieces vividly portraying unlimited possibilities in relationships. This is only my short list. Here they are:

The Notebook
Love and Basketball
Love Affair
Love Jones
Keeping the Faith
The Last Kiss
Shallow Hal
True Romance
Bonnie And Clyde
Secretary
Wicker Park
The Holiday
In the Land of Women
City of Angels
Buster & Billie

If by chance you have anymore that you feel should be here please send them to me via post or e-mail. I am working a medium a long and a huge list of romantic movies and all of your help would be greatly appreciated.

21 Gun Salute: Can't Knock the Hustle

Action movies are infused with a super adrenaline rush. You know the kind that makes your heart race, pulling you to the edge of your seat, keeping you hypnotized with anticipation.

I thoroughly enjoy action movies. Not your typical action flicks with weak story lines, bombs blasting, and guns raining havoc. I'm talking about action movies with colorful characters. Characters that snatch you by the collar who demand your undivided attention.

I enjoy those diabolical characters who turn to a life of crime, thievery, gangsters, hit(wo)men, and drug dealers with nothing to lose. This is my 21 gun salute to those wild cowboys and cowgirls who are ready to die for their cause. Not in any particular order.

REEL CINEMANIAC

How many times have you read a good movie review from a critic that turned out to be false?

I know I have been there more than once.

I recall leaving the bookstore to meet up with my lady and purchasing tickets to see no Country for Old Men. I was so damn mad at myself for sitting there through it that we walked from Lincoln Center back to my place in the 100's by Central Park. Bottom line is I hated the movie. It was the worst movie that I purchased tickets for and sat through its entirety.

It was just so unrealistic.

Javier Bardem has to be the best villian that I have seen in the past 25 years in cinema. Hands down-evil in its darkest sense. You are awesome.

The critics sang praises of the movie as if the Pope was coming to town. I can name quite a few movies of 2007 that were much better than that piece of Coen brothers crap. As far as the Coens brothers go I love a couple of their twisted tales but, this is by far their worst.

I will never classify myself as a critic.

I love movies too much to call myself a critic. Most of these people don't even have creative talent. But make their living critiquing the work of masters who they are not even worthy to stand with in the same room.

I am a reel cinemaniac.

What does that mean to be a reel cinemaniac? It means that I love many different genres of movies in various times and space, I dissect them, expose the good and the bad about them and keep it real. I don't take the sides of directors despite respecting their craft. I call em how I see them.

So buckle up your seatbelts, hold on tight and prepare to get on the thrill ride of a lifetime with a die hard reel cinemaniac. Let's go
